Critical Care Essentials

The Critical Care Essentials 2 day course will provide 5 separate certificates of completion: Critical Care Essentials, Respiratory Disorders, Neurological Disorders, Cardiovascular Disorders, and AHA Airway Management.

Each module of this course is 4 hours in length and is completed under the direct supervision of an experienced instructor.

This 2 day course will cover the following topics:

DAY 1-

8:00am - 12:00pm -Airway Management:

Airway Management is a unique American Heart Association program designed to give students the chance to learn, practice and demonstrate their ability in applying many airway skills used in resuscitation. Students increase their awareness of various airway products and skills required. Certificate of Completion provided the day of course. This course does not provide AHA course card. This course is designed solely to enhance students’ airway management skills. In the classroom, an Airway Management Facilitator conducts video-guided instruction and skill demonstrations, and works with students to complete hands-on skills practice and skills testing. The course is designed into units, and some are optional, so facilitators can present the units that meet the students’ needs.

12:30pm - 4:30pm - Respiratory Disorders:

This course is designed to address a variety of diseases and disorders in the respiratory system. Topics include atelectasis, pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, COPD: emphysema, bronchitis, asthma, pulmonary Edema, and pulmonary embolism. The content includes risk factors, etiology, pathophysiology, assessment, diagnostics, complications and current management.

DAY 2-

8:00am - 12:00pm - Cardiovascular Disorders:

This course is designed to address a variety of diseases and disorders in the cardiovascular system. Topics include atherosclerosis, acute coronary syndrome, angina, myocardial infarction, percutaneous coronary intervention, fibrinolytics, cardiac surgery, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, venous disease, aortic aneurysm, and aortic dissection. The content includes risk factors, etiology, pathophysiology, assessment, diagnostics, complications and current management.

12:30pm - 4:30pm - Neurological Disorders:

This course is designed to address a variety of diseases and disorders that contribute to neurological disorders. Topics include assessment of the unconscious patient, Glasgow Coma Scale, Traumatic Brain Injury, Epidural/Subdural hematoma, intracerebral bleed, stroke, Locked-in-Syndrome, and brain death criteria. The content includes risk factors, etiology, pathophysiology, assessment, diagnostics, complications and current management.

Upon successful completion of this course, Genesis students are welcome back to take any or all of this class again at a later date to sharpen and brush up their skill sets, at no cost!

16 Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) will be provided upon successful course completion.

Students whose licenses are pending will be provided with a temporary certificate of completion that may be shown to current or potential employers as proof of course completion.
