GMEC’s IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal LVN Certification course meets all CA State requirements for IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certification for LVN’s. Areas of IV therapy and blood withdrawal covered thoroughly in this combined class include: methods for performing IV therapy/blood withdrawal, basic IV review, and advanced theory (maintaining PICC lines, central lines, pumps, etc.). Once certified in IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal, re-certification is not necessary as long as the license remains current and does not lapse.

This is a hybrid class with 3 days of online learning theory and knowledge and a fourth day of live skills laboratory, e.g. after the online class.   All course materials are provided by the first day of class and are included in the tuition.

Our IV Therapy Certification course for LVNs, pursuant to the new policy instated by the California BVNPT, is a self contained three-day course. There is no home study prior to this course and homework is not required or accepted, as per these State regulations. Once certified in IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal, re-certification is not necessary as long as the student’s license remains current and does not lapse.

Product Requirements

Course Completion:

  • Please be aware that home study is no longer accepted for any IV Therapy Certification course for LVNs, and certification is only recognized when received from an approved course that adheres to these BVNPT guidelines. Certificates are issued once the licensee has completed the entire course, including all theory and clinical practice /testing.
  • Students must be present on campus throughout the full course to receive a certificate of completion and CEU units. If there is an absence the student will be rescheduled for another class to complete the full class time.
  • Practical testing on fellow students is required on the last day of class that included live sticks. A proxy may be brought in your place if you cannot have a live stick performed on you for any reason.
  • Certificates are issued once the licensee has completed the entire course, including all theory and clinical practice /testing. Once certified, students do not have to renew the certifications as long as your license remains current. Please check the followingLINK to see the BVNPT FAQ website.
  • LVN’s with valid VN #'s will be issued an IV Therapy/Blood Withdrawal Certificate upon successful completion of this course. LVN's with pending numbers or students will receive a temporary certificate of completion that may be shown to current or potential employers as proof of course completion. These students must provide GMEC with a valid VN #. All State paperwork will be sent to the BVNPT by GMEC on student's behalf upon successful course completion. Student will receive the original documents and certificate for their records.
  • Upon successful completion of this course, Genesis students are welcome back to take any or all of this class again at a later date to sharpen and brush up their skill sets, at no cost!

Please note:

  • Equipment Box: Students are issued an equipment box in class and are responsible for the equipment. There is a $20 charge for lost or damaged equipment.
  • Medical release: A medical release from your physician is required if you are pregnant or have any other medical condition that would prevent you from participating in the live testing portion of this course.
  • Daily Expectations: Each day begins at 7:00 a.m. sharp and will run for 12 hours. Any time missed due to lateness must be made up at the end of class to prevent your certified status at a State level being delayed, or if a student misses a significant amount of class time he or she will be rescheduled. The BVNPT will not recognize certification for any student who has not attended the full 36 hours of instruction. This requirement is for safety of the student’s future patients.   • This is a long course modeled after common healthcare professional work shifts. GMEC believes that our daily curriculum and break/lunch structure fosters an enriched academic learning environment to effectively retain the knowledge conveyed during those days. We strive to maintain a positive atmosphere that is encouraged by the welcome and constructive contributions of our students and highly qualified instructors.
  • Proxies are not allowed at this time. If you cannot be stuck you must notify the Director of Education prior to class.
  • Regulations:
    • The state of California requires each LVN student to perform 3 live venipunctures in addition to multiple fingers sticks on each other.
    • Proxy: Are not allowed at this time.
    • If you cannot be stuck and you do not have access to a proxy, you will not be able to participate in the live stick portion of the course, which will result in non-certification. Please understand this is a State requirement for complete certification.
  • Students must wear closed-toed shoes or they will not be allowed in class.
  • Our primary goal is to provide the highest quality of instruction and education to each of our students, and to help ensure the safety of their future patients.

STUDENT'S RIGHT TO CANCEL:  CANCELLATION, WITHDRAWAL, AND REFUND POLICY:

The student has the right to cancel the enrollment agreement and obtain a refund of charges paid if notice of cancellation is made up to 72 hours prior to the start date. Refund requests will be honored when made prior to 72 hours of the course start time minus any non-refundable charge. The school will refund any money paid, less non-refundable fees within 15 days after the notice is received.  Cancellation occurs when the student notifies the administration in writing with a request to cancel from the school by email to admin@genesismec.com. After the class has started, if the student chooses to leave the course this is a withdrawal.  Withdrawal occurs when the student notifies the administration in writing with a request to withdraw from the school by email to admin@genesismec.com.  For courses longer than 12 hours or taught over more than one class day, students withdrawing on or before hour 12 or before the second class day, shall be granted either a 50% refund (minus a $50 admin fee) of tuition charges, or for students wishing to reschedule the course at a later date, a credit for all charges paid. GMEC will honor the credit for a period not to exceed 12 months. Students who withdraw from courses shorter than 12 instructional hours or courses taught within a single class day, are not eligible for a refund of charges paid. For both cancellation and withdrawal, any textbooks, equipment or supplies must be returned in unused condition to receive a refund.

If the student has received federal student financial aid funds, the student is entitled to a refund of moneys not paid from federal student financial aid program funds.
