GMEC’s Lactation Training – Birth and Beyond course is designed to meet the growing need in California hospitals with formal training in lactation. Birth and Beyond is a California initiative to provide instructor training, class materials, and agenda for Baby-Friendly(TM) didactic courses in the state. Hospitals are applying for Baby-Friendly(TM) status, and they need nurses who have completed an approved 2-day Lactation Course.

This 16-hour workshop provides the evidence, knowledge and skills participants need to confidently support, establish and protect both early mother-infant attachment and breastfeeding in the hospital setting. Emphasis will be on honoring the mother’s beliefs and choices of infant feeding. The workshop was adapted from California Department of Public Health’s Birth and Beyond California Learner Workshop and updated to meet the staff training objectives required by Baby-Friendly USA™ for hospitals that are on the new 4-D Pathway to Baby-Friendly™ designation. © Sanctioned by Birth-Beyond: California Public Health Initiative.
