RN Refresher Package is designed to aid RN’s who have been out of practice for any length of time, sharpen their skills and get caught upon the newest protocols and practices being used in the workplace today.  The package contains the following courses:

IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal is a great course for RNs wishing to update skills, experience live practice, and refresh/further their knowledge base. Areas of IV therapy and blood withdrawal covered thoroughly in this combined class include: methods for performing IV therapy /blood withdrawal, basic IV review, and advanced theory (maintaining PICC lines, central lines, pumps, etc.).

ECG Arrhythmia Interpretation and Pharmacology course is excellent for individuals contemplating ACLS Certification or those who must or wish to supplement their training. This is a one-day course that provides the necessary knowledge needed to interpret and treat Cardiac Arrhythmisa, basic electrophysiology, normal ECG measurements, basic arrhythmias, basic ACLS drugs, usage and routes of administration during cardiovascular emergencies, how to integrate basic drug pharmacology into ACLS algorithms, 12 Lead, and Cardiac Conduction. GMEC also provides a set of simulated Mega Code scenarios in which students perform real-time ECG interpretation and drug intervention similar to what is found in an actual ACLS Mega Code test.

AHA’s ACLS Update course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. This course focuses on patient resuscitation in and out of a hospital setting. ACLS course is a LOW-STRESS, hands-on experience taught by veteran instructors in a state of the art facility utilizing the most-up-to-date equipment and techniques.

Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) also known as AB-508 violence prevention course is designed for individuals working within healthcare and emergency medical services fields. This course is AB-508 and SB1299 compliant with the new regulation that requires hospitals to implement a Workplace Violence Prevention Program.  This 4-hour course covers both the theory, regulations, and psychology of patients in dangerous situations, prevention, and de-escalation tactics, and basic defense and methods of protection should the need arise to manage assaultive behavior.

Product Requirements

Course Completion – IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal for RN

  • Please be aware that home study is no longer accepted for any IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal.
  • Students must be present on campus throughout the full course to receive CEU units. If there is an absence the student will be rescheduled for another class to complete the full class time.
  • Practical testing on each other is an optional courtesy we extend to all RNs on the last day of class that includes live sticks. A proxy may be brought in your place if you cannot have a live stick performed on you for any reason.
  • RNs may also attend a third day either partial or complete to receive additional hands-on time. There is no cost for this option.

Course Completion – ECG and AHA ACLS

  • Students must be present on campus throughout the full course to receive a certificate of completion and CEU units. If there is an absence the student will be rescheduled for another class to complete the full class time.
  • Written and skills exams are required for completion card.
  • AHA ACLS Provider Cards are awarded upon the successful completion of the AHA ACLS exam, and is valid for 2 years. Depending on availability, physical or e-Cards will be provided on site, same day.

  • Manual: Students receive the manual on-site. student may request to have the manual sent prior to the course date for pre-course study and will incur a shipping cost. Please allow one week for shipping since this manual must be obtained prior to course.
  • Equipment Box: Students are issued an equipment box in class and are responsible for the equipment. There is a $20 charge for lost or damaged equipment.
  • Medical release: A medical release from your physician is required if you are pregnant or have any other medical condition that would prevent you from participating in the live testing portion of this course.
  • Daily Expectations: Each day begins at 7:00 a.m. sharp and will run for 12 hours. Any time missed due to lateness must be made up at the end of class to prevent your certified status at a State level being delayed, or if a student misses a significant amount of class time he or she will be rescheduled. The BVNPT will not recognize certification for any student who has not attended the full 36 hours of instruction. This requirement is for safety of the student’s future patients.   • This is a long course modeled after common healthcare professional work shifts. GMEC believes that our daily curriculum and break/lunch structure fosters an enriched academic learning environment to effectively retain the knowledge conveyed during those days. We strive to maintain a positive atmosphere that is encouraged by the welcome and constructive contributions of our students and highly qualified instructors.
  • To ensure students feel comfortable during testing, safety issues and possible complications are covered prior to examination. Practical testing on each other is required on the last day of class for LVNs, and is optional for RNs. A proxy may be brought in your place if the student cannot have a live stick performed for whatever reason.
  • Regulations:
    • The state of California requires each LVN student to perform 3 live venipunctures in addition to multiple fingers sticks on each other.
    • Proxy: If you are unable to participate in the live testing portion on the last day of the course (being stuck 3 times for any reason), you MUST bring a proxy to be tested on in your place, or for you to test on directly. A Proxy must be 18 or older and in good health. They will be required to sign a waiver form prior to being stuck.
    • If you cannot be stuck and you do not have access to a proxy, you will not be able to participate in the live stick portion of the course, which will result in non-certification. Please understand this is a State requirement for complete certification.
  • Students must wear closed-toed shoes or they will not be allowed in class.
  • Our primary goal is to provide the highest quality of instruction and education to each of our students, and to help ensure the safety of their future patients.

  • AHA ACLS eBook Manual: Student supplied tablet or laptop required to download prior to class to use.
  • Students must bring to class the ACLS 2015 Guidelines course manual, their old ACLS card as proof to qualify for renewal if applicable, and license number for licensed professionals to collect CEU’s if applicable
  • THE PRECOURSE SELF-ASSESSMENT IS NOW REQUIRED BY THE AHA AND MUST BE COMPLETED/PASSED BEFORE THE COURSE. PLEASE BRING CERTIFICATE TO CLASS
    • Per the AHA If you forget your Pre-course self assessment test or do not pass with 70% or higher you will need to reschedule.
    • Students must wear closed-toed shoes or they will not be allowed in class.

STUDENT'S RIGHT TO CANCEL:  CANCELLATION, WITHDRAWAL, AND REFUND POLICY:

The student has the right to cancel the enrollment agreement and obtain a refund of charges paid if notice of cancellation is made up to 72 hours prior to the start date. Refund requests will be honored when made prior to 72 hours of the course start time minus any non-refundable charge. The school will refund any money paid, less non-refundable fees within 15 days after the notice is received.  Cancellation occurs when the student notifies the administration in writing with a request to cancel from the school by email to admin@genesismec.com. After the class has started, if the student chooses to leave the course this is a withdrawal.  Withdrawal occurs when the student notifies the administration in writing with a request to withdraw from the school by email to admin@genesismec.com.  For courses longer than 12 hours or taught over more than one class day, students withdrawing on or before hour 12 or before the second class day, shall be granted either a 50% refund (minus a $20 admin fee) of tuition charges, or for students wishing to reschedule the course at a later date, a credit for all charges paid. GMEC will honor the credit for a period not to exceed 12 months. Students who withdraw from courses shorter than 12 instructional hours or courses taught within a single class day, are not eligible for a refund of charges paid. For both cancellation and withdrawal, any textbooks, equipment or supplies must be returned in unused condition to receive a refund.

If the student has received federal student financial aid funds, the student is entitled to a refund of moneys not paid from federal student financial aid program funds.
