Ventilator Training

$ 200.00

The Ventilator Training program summarizes the main issues in mechanical ventilation, explains many of the modes, settings, and terms involved, and reviews aspects of monitoring and complications which the clinician should be familiar.  The course covers airway management, mechanical ventilation, selected adult/pediatric mechanical ventilators and troubleshooting, care of the mechanically ventilated patient, alternative modes of mechanical ventilation, and home and critical care transport mechanical ventilation.  Ventilator equipment are discussed with demonstrations, including at least LTV1000 and HT50. This class is geared towards critical care transports for RNs and RTs. Hands on practice, written quiz, and skills assessments are required. This course meets the requirements for CE for RCPs in California.

Contact Education Hours: CEH’s are available for qualified providers.  See FAQs for CE details.

Instructional Model:  This class is offered in hybrid format that includes online lectures, and classroom skills if included in course.

This class has both online lecture and live skills laboratory.

ONLINE LECTURES:  The weekday online classes cover the lecture material and quizzes.  The weekday classes can be pre-recorded on-demand lectures, or live-streaming lectures, call the office for more information.

LIVE SKILLS LABORATORY is typically on the weekend.

This course meets the requirements for CE for RCPs in California.

Upon completion of this course the healthcare provider will be able to define basic terms and concepts of mechanical ventilation, describe indications of mechanical ventilation, understand the difference between oxygen and ventilation, identify initial parameters, settings and special issues associated with ventilator setup, and how to troubleshoot /recognize alarms and evaluate patient’s response to ventilator. This course also covers pressure vs flow triggering, modes of ventilation, and BiPAP/CPAP.

This course is intended and designed primarily for healthcare providers who require initiation into applications and need to acquire basic skills with respiratory equipment.

Performance Objectives:

  1. Maintain a patient’s airway to include establishment of the need for intubation, insertion, and care of artificial airways used in critical care.
  2. Evaluate the effects and complications of mechanical ventilation and take appropriate corrective action when needed.
  3. Analyze ventilator waveform graphics and identify problem and recommend appropriate changes.
  4. Manage and stabilize patients receiving mechanical ventilation.
  5. Determine appropriate alarm parameters to effectively monitor the patient during mechanical ventilation.
  6. Evaluate the appropriateness of, and utilize various methods of, ventilation for weaning patients from mechanical ventilation.
  7. Identify patients that require the use of new modalities of mechanical ventilation (VC +, PAV, APRV, PRVC, BiLevel ventilation).
  8. Evaluate and utilize alternative methods to conventional mechanical ventilation.

At completion of course, Health Care Providers will be evaluated and required to complete a 20 question multiple choice test. Finally, students will be individually interviewed.
