Description

GMEC’s Wound Care Prevention course is developed around that the most important factor regarding wound care, prevention. This course emphasizes the importance of a provider’s overall ability to recognize, assess, and prevent the development of a variety of common wounds as well as exploring the current and accepted treatments in a healthcare setting. As outlined by the BVNPT and BRN, this course is for educational purposes only and does not identify LVNs or RNs as a Certified Wound Care Nurse. This course will not allow one to perform procedures that are beyond one’s specific scope of practice. This course is a stand-alone course, or may be included as part of the GMEC Home Health Nursing Essentials course.

This course emphasizes the importance of a provider’s overall ability to recognize, assess, and prevent the development of a variety of common wounds as well as exploring the current and accepted treatments in a healthcare setting. A better understanding of the factors and environments that contribute to the development of wounds is a skill that increases the level and quality of care a patient receives. With liability of wounds developed while under the care of hospitals now the responsibility of the hospitals themselves and the threat of fines and/or cost of additional treatments, many Healthcare Professionals are being required to attend a Wound Care course that will increase their knowledge in wound prevention. Recognition and assessment of existing or developing wounds allow the Healthcare Professional to better document and monitor the patient’s recovery and the particular success or effectiveness of various treatments.

Through better recognition and assessment, a Healthcare Professional will be better equipped to take steps that may prevent wounds from initially developing or progressing to more advanced and increasingly difficult-to-treat wounds. The ability to understand how to assess and document common wounds in the work place can provide a more accurate cataloging of a wound’s progress or the effectiveness of various treatments.

As outlined by the BVNPT and BRN, this course is for educational purposes only and does not identify LVNs or RNs as a Certified Wound Care Nurse. The certificate received upon completion does not imply one may perform procedures beyond the specific scope of practice outlined by one’s particular governing body.
