    📋 Information and Details

    Admissions Process

Applicants must complete and submit the nursing program application, participate in interviews, and submit essays. Admissions decisions are based on academic readiness, motivation, and alignment with program goals.

    Overview and How to Apply

The Vocational Nursing (VN) program at Genesis Medical College is a comprehensive training program designed to prepare students for a career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Admission into the program is competitive, and prospective students should carefully follow all application steps. To begin the process, interested applicants should review the program details and then submit an application as outlined below.

How to Apply: Applicants must complete an official application for the VN program and submit all required documents by the stated deadlines. The application is online. Once the application and documents are submitted, applicants should wait for further instructions from the admissions team.

    Directions on how to apply

    • Click "ENROLL NOW" to waive payment of the application fee until admissions confirmed. Follow the prompts to create your account.
    • After creating your account, click "Go to My Courses" and select "Complete Application."
    • Enter the information and upload required documents as requested.
    • Be sure to use the same email for both account creation and application.
    • Click "SAVE" to save progress and "SUBMIT" to finish.
    • You can submit documents later if needed.
Tip: Start your application early! Gathering documents and preparing for the entrance exam can take time. Submitting your application well before the deadline gives you a better chance to address any issues that might arise.
    Admissions Pre-requisites

Before applying to the VN program, ensure you meet all pre-requisites. These requirements are in place to make sure incoming students are prepared for the rigor of the program:

    • Educational Background: High school diploma or GED. Official transcripts or proof of completion will be required. (If educated outside the U.S., provide translated transcripts and proof of English proficiency.)
    • Entrance Exam (HESI A2): All applicants must take the HESI Admission Assessment (A2) exam. The 4-hour exam includes Math and English (Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading Comprehension). This exam may be taken with ProctorU online proctoring or an approved testing center (coming soon).
    • Alternate Entrance Exam: Applicants who have already taken the ATI TEAS exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills) within the past 24 months may submit their scores for review. **Note:** TEAS scores should meet equivalent benchmarks (overall proficiency comparable to the HESI A2 requirement). The admissions committee will determine if the TEAS score can substitute for the HESI A2.
    • English Proficiency: Because the program is taught in English, applicants must be comfortable with college-level English. If your prior education was not in English, you might be asked to demonstrate English proficiency through an exam or preparatory course.
    • Minimum Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program.
    • Technology: Because this is a hybrid program, students must have a laptop and be sufficiently proficient with basic computer functions and have a computer that meets the technology requirements, found in the Academic Catalog.
Tip: Prepare for the HESI A2 exam in advance. Utilize study guides or preparatory courses to ensure you achieve your best score. Strong exam results not only fulfill minimum criteria but also improve your ranking among other applicants.
    Required Application Documents

When submitting your application, be sure to include all of the following documents. Incomplete applications may delay processing or disqualify you from admission consideration:

    • Completed Application Form: Fill out all sections of the Genesis Medical College VN Program application. Ensure that your personal information is accurate and up to date.
    • Application Fee Receipt: There is no up front fee for submitting an application. Applicants who are admitted and enrolled into the program will have the non-refundable $250 application fee rolled into their payment plan.
    • Government-Issued Photo ID: Provide a clear copy of a valid photo identification (e.g., driver’s license, state ID, or passport) for identity verification.
    • Proof of Education: Include a copy of your high school diploma, GED certificate, or official transcripts from all colleges attended where credit was earned or graduated. If you have college credits or a degree, official college transcripts are required to be submitted (these may be used for transfer credit evaluation). During the application process unofficial transcripts can be accepted, however, official transcripts must be recieved prior to the start date.
    • Entrance Exam Results: Submit your HESI A2 score report. Applicants substituting a TEAS score should provide the official TEAS score report.
    • Other Certifications (if applicable): If you hold any relevant healthcare certifications include copies. Examples: Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, and Emergency Medical Technician National Registry; all others will be determined at the discretion of the Director of Vocational Nursing. Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
    • Work or Military Experience: For each work location, include a dated letter on company letterhead from employer(s) with the application. This letter must list your job title, duties, and dates of paid employment. Family-related care is excluded. All health-related work experience will be determined at the discretion of the Director of Vocational Nursing.
Tip: Make copies of all documents for your records. Use a checklist to ensure nothing is missed. When submitting online, scan documents clearly. Keeping a personal file will help if any item needs to be re-submitted.
    Admissions Requirements and Ranking Process

Meeting the minimum admissions requirements makes you eligible for consideration, but admission is selective. When the application window closes, the admissions committee reviews all qualified applications. Here’s how the selection and ranking typically work:

    • Complete Application: Only applicants who have met all pre-requisites and submitted all required documents (as listed above) will move forward in the selection process. Applications that are incomplete or do not meet minimum standards (e.g., insufficient test scores) will not be considered for admission.
    • Screening and Selection Rubric: Eligible applicants are primarily ranked through points awarded according to their prior education and work experience, and course or program completion, in addition to their performance on the admissions assessment (HESI A2 or approved equivalent). Be thorough in submitted documents to be awarded points you earned.
    • Additional Criteria: In addition, applicants must complete a panel interview and write a personal essay to earn points.
    • Selection of Cohort: The program has a limited number of seats. Applicants are ordered by rank, and the top candidates are offered admission until all seats are filled. If you are offered a seat, you will receive a conditional acceptance letter outlining the next steps (see Post-Admission Requirements).
    • Alternate Candidates: A small number of qualified applicants who were not initially admitted may be designated as alternates (see Waitlist Policy below). Alternates may be called up to join the program if admitted students decline their offer or fail to meet post-admission requirements.
    • Financial Clearance Deadline: All candidates must be financially cleared by the Financial Clearance Deadline. This means completing payment in full or enrolling in a payment plan with Signed promissory Note with required documents and down payment. Students who are not cleared by this date will be dropped from the program.
Note: Meeting the minimum requirements (exam scores, prerequisites, documents) does not guarantee admission. Strive to exceed the minimum criteria to improve your chances. The admissions process is competitive, and it’s not unusual for more qualified candidates to apply than there are spots available.
    Post-Admission Requirements

Congratulations to those who are offered admission! Once you receive a conditional acceptance into the VN program, there are several important steps to complete before you can officially start the program. Admitted students (and alternates, as noted) must fulfill the following post-admission requirements:

Interview/Intake Session: You may be required to attend an interview or intake orientation session shortly after acceptance. This meeting allows the program staff to review your application, discuss your goals, and verify your understanding of program expectations. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask final questions. (In some cases, this interview may have been conducted as part of the admissions decision process.)

Background Check: All admitted students must undergo a criminal background check. Genesis Medical College will provide instructions for completing the background check through an approved agency. A clear background (or issues approved by the administration) is necessary to participate in clinical rotations. Failure to pass the background check can result in forfeiture of your spot.

Drug Screening: Students are required to complete a 10-panel drug screen (or similar) at a designated laboratory. A clean drug test is mandatory. Any positive result for unauthorized substances may disqualify you from the program. It’s important to disclose any prescribed medications as instructed during the screening process.

Health Clearance: Admitted students must provide proof of required immunizations and health screenings. This typically includes a recent physical exam, TB test or chest X-ray clearance, and up-to-date vaccinations (such as Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and flu shot). You will receive a checklist of health requirements and the Physical Form to be completed by a healthcare provider.

BLS Card: A Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification from American Heart Association is required prior to the start of clinical courses.

Orientation: Attendance at the program orientation session is mandatory. Orientation is held shortly before classes begin. During orientation, you will meet faculty, receive the program schedule, review policies, and finalize any outstanding paperwork (such as signing the Enrollment Agreement and other forms). Students will also receive information about uniforms, textbooks, and the first week of classes.

Alternate Status Procedures: If you have been offered an alternate spot (meaning the program is currently full, but you are on an alternate list for an opening), you should complete all the above admission steps as if you were admitted. Alternates must be ready to join the class on short notice if a space becomes available, even up to the first week of the term. If no space opens for an alternate, the admission is deferred. Alternates who remain qualified may be given priority consideration for the next cohort, but they will likely need to reapply for that cycle (application fees may be waived in such cases).

    Waitlist Policy

The VN program may establish a waitlist when more qualified applicants exist than available spots. The waitlist (or alternate list) is a way to fill seats if admitted students withdraw or fail to meet post-admission requirements. Key points of our waitlist policy include:

    • Notification of Waitlist Status: Applicants who are placed on the waitlist will be notified in their decision letter. Being on the waitlist means you met the requirements but were not in the top group selected initially.
    • Rank Order: Waitlisted candidates are ranked by the admissions committee which maintains an internal rank based on the same criteria used for admission (primarily entrance exam scores and overall application strength). If a position or seat opens, the next candidate in line will be offered admission.
    • Time Frame: The waitlist is generally active until the start date of the program. If you are on the waitlist, you could be called up until the first week of classes. After the program start, the waitlist is dissolved for that cohort.
    • Next Cohort Consideration: Waitlisted students who did not get a seat are encouraged to reapply for the next cohort. While we cannot guarantee admission in the next cycle, reapplying demonstrates persistence. The admissions team may consider your previous waitlist status, and application fees for re-applicants from the immediate past cycle are sometimes waived or reduced (inquire with the admissions office).
Tip: If you are waitlisted, stay prepared. Continue studying and be ready to take the spot if called – sometimes notification can come just days before classes begin. Also, take the time to strengthen your application for the next cycle by improving test scores or gaining additional experience, in case you need to reapply.

    HESI A2

Students who fall behind on tuition payments or financial obligations may be subject to withdrawal or dismissal from the program. Students do not directly receive funds.

    FAQs for the Grant

Q: What does the Grant Application Priority Deadline mean?

A: It’s an early deadline (May 15, 2025) for students who want the best chance at receiving the grant. Applicants who meet all requirements by this date receive first consideration for funding. Applications submitted after this date may still be eligible — but only if funds remain available.

Q: Why is the Financial Clearance Deadline after the Decision Notification Date?

A: Students need to know they’re accepted (by May 19) before finalizing tuition funding. The Financial Clearance Deadline (June 8) gives admitted students time to confirm how they’ll pay — via scholarships, loans, or payment plans — before the program starts.

Q: Can I still get the grant if I apply after the priority deadline?

A: Possibly. Late applicants will be considered only if grant funds remain available after the priority deadline pool is reviewed.

Q: What is the Promissory Note?

A: The promissory note is a formal agreement outlining the terms of the grant. All recipients must sign it before funds are applied to their tuition. It ensures students understand their responsibilities and the conditions for continued eligibility.

Q: What happens if I fall behind on tuition payments?

A: Students who do not stay current with financial obligations risk being placed on hold, withdrawn from classes, or dismissed from the program entirely. Timely payments are essential to maintaining enrollment and grant eligibility.
